Our London born and bred tour guides do love their city. But they love English scenery and history too and enjoy providing commentary and historic anecdotes about all our tour destinations. On this day trip out of London you’re going to visit two unforgettable, very famous English cities.

Stratford-upon-Avon: is all about William Shakespeare. His birthplace, home base and burial space are all on our walking tour. This small, very pleasant ancient market town is full of Shakespeare related sights encompassing his entire life and family. You’ll stroll over the River Avon and through the old centre discovering the Shakespeare presence as you explore.

The Cotswolds is on your route to Oxford. You’ll drive across the edge of one of England’s famous rural areas, taking in some lovely scenery as you travel.

Oxford: is the ‘city of dreaming spires’, medieval colleges and many magnificent old buildings. Our guided walk encompasses the colleges, history, architecture and people who were made by Oxford and helped make its name: Wren, Hawksmoor, Carroll, Tolkien; Alice and Potter!

An alternative to Oxford is Kenilworth Castle:

Kenilworth Castle: is a superb, huge ruin dating back to the 12th century and not far from Stratford. The castle expanded into a royal palace until its destruction in the 1600s. From then it was reduced to a farm before becoming an inspiration to the 19th century romantics. Kenilworth is what an English castle is meant to look like! Kenilworth is a paid attraction – tickets are extra.

Itinerary:

• 08.00: Meet at your hotel/accommodation, drive to Stratford.
• 10.30: Arrive Stratford-upon-Avon.
• 12.30: Leave Stratford-upon-Avon.
• 14.00: Arrive Oxford.
• 16.00: Leave Oxford.
• 18.00: Return to London hotel.

Your driver and private guide and will be explaining as you explore. Walking is integral to this tour. There are lots of stops for photo opps. We’ll talk as you walk and when we’re up close. Time spent viewing a location varies from one or two minutes to a few minutes.

You’re always close to coffee shops and places for bathroom breaks and your lunch location can be decided as you tour.

Having a driver/walking guide conducting your tour in a London taxi is super-efficient and will help to make the day enjoyable and memorable.
